i may have lived in 4 countries, 3 states and a number of towns/cities but i've always thought of myself as a Marylander. with the exception of the 8 years i lived with my grandparents in Takoma Park/Silver Spring, MD, my stint in Baltimore is the longest i've been in one place, willingly. it'll be 6 years in Sept.

Is that other flag the Maryland flag?
yes it is. it was designed after the Civil war, to represent part of the state that supported the confederate cause and the other to highlight those who stayed true to the union. the red/white for the south, yellow/black for the unofficial md colors. the design itself originated from the Calverts, MD's colonial proprietors; it's their coat of arms.
